As your therapist, I will appreciate the complexity of your life and the struggles and strengths influencing who you are and who you want to be. I will believe in your right to hope, and I will hold hope for you.
Hello! My name is Kelsey and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #148605), supervised by Mona Klausing, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA #101243).
First and foremost—welcome. Whether you are new to therapy or have prior experience with the process, connecting with a new therapist can be exciting, vulnerable, challenging, calming—all of the things! Please know that, however you are feeling about starting therapy in this moment, I am deeply committed to supporting you in the life you seek to live.
I am a former elementary special education teacher and currently teach at the university level, giving me unique insight into the ways in which academic spaces may challenge our desires to be authentic and free in learning and professional work. I have also worked with youth who have been system-impacted, as well as couples and families who have experienced domestic and systemic violence. My time spent with these communities have only deepened my belief that we are more than the stories others tell about us—in each story we rewrite for ourselves, we become open to possibilities that were once unimaginable.
I will use narrative, collaborative, and emotion-focused approaches in our time together, and hope is central to how I understand a therapeutic relationship. As an educator, a newer mama, and the daughter of Black Jamaican immigrants, I am struck by how hope has carried me—and my communities—across seas and through generations, time and time again. As your therapist, I will appreciate the complexity of your life and the struggles and strengths influencing who you are and who you want to be. I will believe in your right to hope, and I will hold hope for you.
Whoever you are, wherever you are from, whomever you share your life and love with, I look forward to working alongside you in an active, supportive stance. If you feel I might be a good fit for your therapeutic needs and would like to schedule an appointment, or if you have questions and would like to schedule a free consultation, I welcome you to reach out to me. My fees are $80-$125 per 45-minute session, based on household income. Please see our sliding fee scale. I can also accept Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare insurance under my supervisor’s license.
